New 'Game Of Thrones: War For Westeros' Gameplay Revealed

The track record with video games based on the world of Game of Thrones isn’t stellar. Full of mobile games, often reskins of existing titles, fans of the world George R.R. Martin created have repeatedly been let down by projects that fail to let them explore the medieval setting. While this is certainly no open-world exploration title, development for War for Westeros clearly continues apace.
A real-time strategy game that puts players into the shoes of factions seen in the first Game of Thrones TV series, War for Westeros is being developed by PlaySide Studios. It originally planned to release the game in 2026, but has pushed the date back to sometime in 2027. Several other teasers have been released before the latest one, which shows off some of the game’s most fantastical elements: dragons.
In the short YouTube clip meant to hype up the game’s first gameplay reveal at Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2026, we see Lannister soldiers arrayed for battle against their foes, only to be devastated by the swooping form of a fire-breathing dragon (likely as part of Daenerys’ faction). A suitable teaser for the eventual reveal, we will hopefully know a lot more after August 25th when PlaySide shows off more about the game, and fans will be able to better judge their opinions about this latest project in the ASOIAF universe.
