'Power Rangers' Series Not Moving Forward At Disney+

It's... apparently no longer morphin’ time. Hasbro's reboot of Power Rangers has been shot down once again. Since 2023, the company has been shopping the reboot around to various streamers and studios, with Disney+ and 20th Century Television being the latest. It was all set to go with Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz at the helm. The series was also going to break from the franchise's 30-year tradition of incorporating footage from the Japanese tokusatsu franchise Super Sentai and instead go all-in with original footage, including action sequences, which most likely led to this project's cancellation.
The costs related to producing a superhero series akin to Power Rangers without relying on Japanese stock footage are rather high and would require a huge investment from both Disney+ and 20th Century Television, more than they were willing to invest in a project relating to an IP they did not own. Hasbro currently owns the property, and they have been wanting to produce a more “mature” reboot of the series that is wholly original and reliant on Japanese footage for several years, with Netflix being the first to turn them down. Thus, the Power Rangers brand and this reboot remain dormant, something fans are not taking well.

The series’ last incarnation was Power Rangers Cosmic Furyin 2023, which featured original suits but additional action footage pulled from Uchu Sentai Kyuranger as well as costumes and props from Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger, Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger, and Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger.
