The tokusatsu series Super Sentai (best known in the West for being adapted into Power Rangers) is coming to an end (for now) after 50 years, with No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger wrapping up. However, it has just recently been bestowed with a huge honor. The series has been recognized as “the tokusatsu TV series with the most transformation heroes in Japan,” making it number one in that category, as stated by this post on X.

No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger will air its final episode on February 8th. The series began with Himitsu Sentai Gorenger on April 5th, 1975. It was the only iteration in the franchise to run for more than one year. After this first incarnation, the series began its tradition of airing 51-episode installments each year, with each one featuring a new team based on a new motif.

Although there were several attempts to bring it to the United States (including one helmed by Marvel's Stan Lee), it wasn't until 1993's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers that Super Sentai was introduced to an American audience, helping to expand the franchise's global reach. This partnership lasted for 30 years and several owners. Power Rangers itself concluded with 2023's Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, and by that point, they were using original suits. A reboot is in the works, but Toei, the company behind Super Sentai, will not be involved, ending a three-decade-long partnership.

While Super Sentai is on hiatus, a new tokusatsu franchise, Project R.E.D. (which stands for Records of Extraordinary Dimensions), will take its place, beginning with a revival of the Metal Heroes series with Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity
