This week was a pretty big one for actors making their feature directorial debuts. Yesterday, we received major updates on some of the most anticipated directorial debuts in the industry.
Up first is Colman Domingo’s Nat King Cole biopic, Unforgettable, which he is set to write and direct. The film is set for international distribution by Lionsgate. The project aims to start filming later this year and is expected to be a major, in-demand pre-sale title in the festival circuit. Colman Domingo is widely considered one of the finest actors working today, following his breakout role as Victor Strand in the AMC series Fear the Walking Dead, of which he directed three episodes. Domingo’s other prominent roles include the television series Euphoria (which earned him an Emmy win), The Four Seasons, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and films such as Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, The Color Purple, Rustin, and Sing Sing, the latter two earning him back-to-backOscar nominations for Best Actor. He will next be seen in the highly anticipated films Michael and Disclosure Day. Domingo is also attached to direct the film Scandalous, a drama about the love affair between actress Kim Novak and musician Sammy Davis Jr., with Sydney Sweeney and David Jonsson set to play them.
Next up is Teyana Taylor, whose directorial debut, Get Lite, will be distributed by Paramount Pictures. Starring Storm Reid (Euphoria), the film centers on a young woman who wants to be a dancer and finds love on the New York subway. Taylor has found herself at the center of a massive pop culture moment lately. The multi-hypenate musician, actress, and former dance choreographer has become an awards darling for her acclaimed performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. Taylor was also recently nominated for a Grammy for her fourth studio album, Escape Room. Get Lite will be released on April 9, 2027.

And finally, we have Danny Ramirez’s directorial debut, the soccer drama Baton. While plot details are unknown, Ramierez is set to direct, write, co-produce, and star in the film. Former Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso is set to produce the upcoming film. Danny Ramirez is perhaps best known for his role as Joaquin Torres aka. Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role he’s set to reprise in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday. The film’s stacked cast includes Maia Reficco (Hadestown), Diego Calva (Babylon), Camila Mendes (Masters of the Universe), Mía Maestro (The Motorcycle Diaries), Becky G (Blue Beetle), and Ramirez’s Doomsday co-star Lewis Pullman (Thunderbolts*). In an era where roles both in front of and behind the camera for Latinos are at an all-time low, Baton is a breath of fresh air.
