Now that the strikes in Hollywood are over (for now, watch out for IATSE next year), studios are back in the swing green-lighting shows and films and shifting schedules around to make up for the time lost during the strikes. The rescheduling began during the strikes. This included shifting Denis Villeneuve’s second part of his Dune adaptation from its original November release date to March. Warner Bros. has now released the second full trailer for Part II.

If you’ve read the novel the movies are based on, considered widely as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, science-fiction novels of all time. Dune chronicles the journey of Paul Atreides as he grows from a young boy tossed around by the machinations of the powerful to taking the reins of his own destiny and bringing an empire to its knees. The timeframe of the book does encompass a significant time jump.

RELATED:

With the way the first movie ends, and from what can be seen in the trailer, that looks to be what will be seen in Part II. The second part details Paul’s time among the Fremen, the native people of Arrakis, eventually becoming their prophesied chosen one and leading them in a rebellion against the murderers of his father and noble house, the Harkonnen, to take the planet back. This sets up Paul to directly challenge the Emperor and positions himself to control the known universe.

This action-packed finale to the first book of many, introduces us to more of the power players, and their tools of intrigue and assassination. That includes the Padishah Emperor himself, Shaddam IV, played by Christopher Walken, and his daughter, Princess Irulan, played by Florence Pugh. Finally, there’s Vladimir Harkonnen’s nephew and heir-apparent, Feyd-Rautha, played by Austin Butler, a ruthless assassin who slaughters Harkonnen slaves in an arena like the Roman Coliseum.

See the explosive conclusion to the first Dune book on March 1, 2024.
