Dune fans have been given a sneak peek of the new Lego Atreides Royal Ornithopter, even though it doesn’t come out until February 1st, 2024.

The ship was created by writer Frank Herbert but based on Denis Villeneuve’s vision. An Ornithopter is a domesticated land mollusk called a Heart Scallop, with mechanical wings attached. They appear several times in Dune, as they are the main method of transport on Arrakis. Paul uses one to get his mother to safety after the fall of House Atreides, but they also play an important role in the battle of Arrakeen.

At $165 for 1369 pieces, this is definitely one for the adults, which is what you’d expect from the Icon’s line. The final build is a variant of Lego and Lego Technic and comes in at around 80cms by 56cms. A good size to grace any desk, although those wings are going to be too delicate to pretend to fly through the air, shooting at sandworms. The set comes with eight mini-figures including the Baron, with a long robe on his suspensor belt….okay it’s a tall translucent stand, but it still looks very cool.

The Atreides Royal Ornithopter is bound to be popular, so make sure you pre-order this one from www.lego.com
