Warner Bros. has come out swinging in all their Uncaged Fury for the first teaser of Mortal Kombat 2. While he was hinted at during the end of 2021’s Mortal Kombat, this is viewers’ first time seeing Karl Urban in action as Johnny Cage. In 2023, The Boys star was met with mixed responses upon his announcement to take up the mantle of the egotistical, blockbuster hero. This teaser looks to let the lion out of the cage in a creative way.
Made to look like the cheesy action movies the character is known for, this teaser is less about Mortal Kombat than Johnny Cage himself. Viewers are met with the semi-grainy tones of an old 80s flick, and all the out-of-this-world fight scenes that go along with one. In the build-up to fist fights and flipping over rockets, fans are treated to some of the titles used to list the character’s previous films. Keeping in fashion with the games, no title would be complete without the name of the star. Such as “Cool Hand Cage; Hard to Cage; and Rebel Without a Cage,” all in the build-up to Uncaged Fury.
This teaser only gives a taste of the action sequences to come, but none of the gore that can be expected throughout the full feature. Audiences can also expect new characters to enter the roster, like Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn. For those who are left wanting more after this teaser, they won’t have to wait long as a trailer for Mortal Kombat 2 will be released tomorrow, July 17th, at 11 a.m. EST on Warner Bros YouTube Channel. Otherwise, fans can look forward to seeing Mortal Kombat 2 when it releases on October 24th, 2025.
