A Thai Fantasy-Adventure Pic From Matt Braly Is In The Works At Sony

Award Winning series Amphibia, which aired three seasons on Disney Channel from 2019 to 2022. This series drew heavy inspiration from Braly’s childhood and Thai heritage and culture, which will carry over into his currently unnamed film at Sony. Additionally, Braly was a storyboard artist on the 2021 film The Mitchells vs The Machines, which was also produced by Sony Pictures Animation.

According to an article by Deadline, the film “tells the story of a young boy who goes on an emotional journey to a fantastical world of Thai spirits where he hopes to have his illness cured.”

Joining Matt Braly on this feature is none other than singer, songwriter, animator, and writer Rebecca Sugar, who’s known for their work on Adventure Time as a storyboard artist and songwriter. They are also the creator and showrunner of the Daytime Emmy Award Winning series Steven Universe. Sugar is attached to Braly’s film as its screenwriter.

Matt Braly’s animated feature is the latest in Sony Pictures Animation’s roster of animated projects, which includes Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,  Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans’ musical film KPOP: Demon Hunters, and Genndy Tartakovski’s adult comedy Fixed.
