Jumanji is returning to the big screen, and it’s bringing a familiar face with it! It’s officially been confirmed that Henry Jackman will score the upcoming Jumanji sequel Open World.

Announced at CinemaCon earlier this year, Open World is the third (technically fifth) and final installment of this new Jumanji trilogy, which started back in 2017 with Welcome to the Jungle. The story this time around sees the world of Jumanji running amok in the real world and it’s up to the players to save it and Jumanji. Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Nick Jonas, Danny DeVito, Awkwafina, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Se’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Rhys Darby, Karin Hinkle, Bebe Neuwirth, and Lamorne Morrison return from previous films. Jake Kasdan returns as director and co-writer alongside screenwriters Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. The original Jumanji (starring the late Robin Williams and directed by Joe Johnston) was released in 1995 and was a box office. It was followed by the 2005 Jon Favreau sci-fi film Zathura, which was retroactively included as part of the Jumanji franchise. Welcome to the Jungle, despite initial backlash, received highly positive reviews from critics and fans and grossed over $962 million, becoming the 5th highest-grossing film of 2017. The Next Level grossed over $801 million, making it the 10th highest-grossing film of 2019.

Henry Jackman is no stranger to blockbuster films. A frequent collaborator of the Russo Brothers, Matthew Vaughn, and Sam Hargrave, Jackman has remained one of the most in-demand studio composers of the last 17 years. Jackman is best known for his forays in comic book movies, scoring X-Men: First Class, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Big Hero 6, the Kingsman franchise, and the Extraction series. He’s also known for scoring multiple animated films such as Monsters vs. Aliens, the 2011 Winnie-the-Pooh reboot, Puss in Boots, Wreck-it Ralph, and Turbo. He’s been confirmed to be amongst the 9 film composers scoring Tony Gilroy’s upcoming drama Behemoth! and he’s set to scoreGodzilla x Kong: Supernova. Open World will be Jackman’s fourth collaboration with Jake Kasdan following his first two Jumanji films and Red One.

Jumanji: Open World transports into theaters this Christmas.
