Aardman Studios Is Producing A Short For ‘Star Wars: Visions’ Volume 2

Following on the heels of 2021’s collection of animated Star Wars short series, collectively known as Star Wars: Visions, Disney/Lucasfilm will be bringing us a second volume of Visions, with another set of animated studios ready to take us further into the galaxy far, far, away. Of particular note, the English stop-motion animation studio, Aardman, will be contributing a Star Wars short story entitled “I Am Your Mother,” to be directed by Magdalena Osinksa. A veteran of Aardman Studio, Osinksa is known best for the animated comic duo, Wallace and Gromit. Aardman Studios is also well-known for the 2000 hit animated movie, Chicken Run. Further details about the plot of this short are currently unavailable, but could it perhaps be some kind of twist on Darth Vader’s infamous “I am your father” revelation about Luke’s parentage in The Empire Strikes Back?
Whereas the first volume of Visions was produced by Japanese anime studios, it appears that the second volume will be exploring the Star Wars universe with a much broader palette and produced by a wide variety of foreign studios contributing shorts including Aardman (United Kingdom), 88 Pictures (India), Cartoon Saloon (Ireland), D’art Shatajio (Japan), El Guiri (Spain), Punkrobot (Chile), Studio LaCachette (France), Studio Mir (South Korea), and Triggerfish (South Africa). As with the first volume, the creators will be given broad license to tell their stories, which will be set within the Star Wars universe, but will also likely not exist within the current Star Wars canon.
Star Wars Visions Volume 2 is set to launch exclusively on Disney+ on Star Wars Day this year (May 4, 2023) alongside other upcoming Star Wars series set to launch this year, including the third season of The Mandalorian, Young Jedi Adventures, Ashoka, and Skeleton Crew.
