With less than a month away from the highly anticipated season three instalment of The Mandalorian, we have learned that composer Ludwig Göransson will not be leading the episodic score for the series as he has in the past two seasons of the show. It is important to note that the iconic opening score is expected to remain the same with proper credit going to Göransson. The Book of Boba Fett’s Joseph Shirley will be taking over the lead role in composing the musical narration fans are to hear throughout the season’s episodes.

The specific reason for Göransson’s absence has not been reported, however, The Bespin Bulletin speculates that the likely reason for it correlates to the composer’s time commitments to both Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which was released in November as well as Oppenheimer, which is slated for release this coming summer. Fans need not worry that a newbie is stepping in to try and fill Göransson’s shoes. Shirley is not new to the world of Lucasfilm. He has worked alongside Göransson as part of the musical team composing the score for the other two seasons. While we are not sure of what to expect specifically for this upcoming season, stylistically it is expected to be reminiscent of The Book of Boba Fett.

The Mandalorian season three will hit Disney+ on March 1st.
