AMC Theatres has just announced that it is testing a new service. The chain is introducing saved seating for VIP tiers. As CEO Adam Aron stated, “AMC will introduce preferred premier seating, where we will block and reserve the best seats in the house in our theaters to be accessed first by our A-List and our Stubs Premiere members — that’s the two VIP tiers within our Stubs program — at no added charge. At AMC, we will assure that the best seats in our auditoriums are [held] — at first, anyway — for our best customers. We think it will be a considerable consumer benefit that our most frequent guests will notice and greatly appreciate, further cementing their brand loyalty to AMC.”
AMC had previously faced backlash over the so-called Sightline initiative, which would have charged higher prices based on seat location. This new initiative seems to be more of a premium thing for brand loyalty, and the post implies that people not in the programme can get better seats as well. We will have to wait and see if there are any downsides to this initiative, especially as prices seem to be increasing for these VIP tiers. Whatever the case, we wish everyone luck in this new endeavor.
