In the wake of the Warner Bros. and Embracer Group deal, the internet is alive with a renewed interest in the world J.R.R. Tolkien built. Some fans are concerned that Warner Bros. will remake The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, but the deal prohibited that. Others are excited at what the future holds.

One of those fans, one with first-hand experience at the magic of Tolkien, is Andy Serkis, and given the recent news, he expressed his eagerness to return to the world of Middle-earth in a podcast recently.

“…Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens are sort of a second family that I have become part of and have gone on to make so many films with,” Serkis said. He then said if it happened, he would “jump at the chance” to work with Jackson and the writers. Serkis said they’re like family to him.

There has yet to be an official confirmation that Peter Jackson and writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are going to be taking on any of the new projects that Warner Bros. has planned, nor any word as to what those plans are. It has been said, however, that Jackson and the others are being kept in the loop as to what developments there are, and they “look forward to hearing their vision for the franchise moving forward,” they said to Entertainment Weekly.

There is a bright future for Tolkien intellectual properties. One of the first new projects, currently in the works, is the War of the Rohirrim, which is being done in an anime style. With the breadth of Tolkien’s stories and what Embracer has allowed Warner Bros. access, there’s a wide range of possibilities for where they can take the franchise.
