Following the current trend of restarting/continuing shows that have been off the air for years, Cartoon Network’s original, wonderfully weird animated series, The Amazing World of Gumball, is making an encore on Hulu soon. The series, created and executive produced by Ben Bocquelet and featured on Cartoon Network, follows the life of a twelve-year old boy who just happens to be a blue cat as he lives with his eccentric family in a town with other strange creatures and has all kinds of weird adventures with his family in his town of Elmore.

The original series ran for 240 quarter-hour episodes from 2011 to 2019 and is still fondly remembered by its fans. It also won several awards, including a BAFTA Children’s Award, an International Emmy, and an Annie Award. The series continuation will sport a new title, The Wonderfully Weird Adventures of Gumball but will essentially pick right back up from where the original Gumball series ended.

The creative talent for the show is very enthused by returning to work with Bocquelet’s zany characters.

“What an amazing opportunity to play with these characters again!” Bocquelet, Layzell, and Fountain enthused. “Fans can look forward to plenty more antics and misadventures in Elmore because Gumball and Darwin haven’t grown up much since we last saw them … we haven’t either.”

Bocquelet will be returning to executive produce this new series, and Matt Layzell and Erik Fountain will also serve as executive producers and directors for the series. The composer for the series is Xav Clarke, and the art director is Joe Sparrow. The main voice cast includes Alkaio Thiele as Gumball, Hero Hunter as Gumball’s younger brother Darwin, Kinza Syed Khan as younger sister Anais, Teresa Gallagher, returning as Gumball’s feisty mother, Nicole, and Dan Russell, returning as his dim-witted and childlike father, Richard.

The series will stream on Hulu in the United States and on HBO Max outside of the United States and will premiere later this year. Cartoon Network released a trailer, which can be viewed below:
