The upcoming live-action movie Clayface live-action movie has set a new writer. Hossen Amini, who penned the 2011 film Drive, will rewrite a script from the drafts of Mike Flanagan. James Watkins, who directed last year’s Speak No Evil, is attached to direct the product. James Gunn confirmed he never planned to make a Clayface film, but Flanagan’s script was too good to pass up. He said, “First draft is great. Second draft is even better. And then I’m like, ‘Let’s do it.’ So we found a place for it because if there’s quality stuff, we can find a way to work it in.” With Gunn’s praise, the reason for the writer swap likely comes down to scheduling issues, as Flanagan is currently working on a Carrie series and an Exorcist film.

Clayface debuted in the comics as Basil Karo, a horror movie actor who went insane. He managed to turn his body into living clay and developed the ability to shape-shift. However, the character has an established presence on Batman: The Animated Series and appeared on Batman: The Caped Crusader. The character will also be featured in an upcoming episode of Creature Commandos. Clayface will be released in theaters on September 11, 2026.
