From the initial announcement that Hugh Jackman would co-star in Deadpool 3 as the Wolverine, fans were both excited about the appearance and concerned about the canon status of Logan (2017). Those involved with the film were quick to confirm that Logan’s emotional death in the film is still canon; Ryan Reynolds alone affirmed his appreciation for the film and canon confirmation pretty much immediately. Recently, Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy not only reconfirmed that the events of Logan are still canon but reaffirmed the love for the 2017 film held by those involved as well.

Levy has a particular reverence and appreciation for Logan. He explained (via Gizmodo):

“I have always said that I can’t wait for Deadpool 3 to come out because all I want to do is give interviews alongside Ryan where we talk about our reverence for the movie Logan. Logan is canon. We love Logan. That happened. I want the world to know, as the producer and director, all of us share a deep love and respect for Logan, every aspect of how it’s crafted, and all the events that take place.”

Deadpool 3 is currently looking at a May 2024 release; however, there are reports that the film will be pushed back as production was delayed due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Whether or not the film meets its scheduled release, the first two Deadpool films can be streamed on Disney+ during the wait, as can Logan.
