'Destiny 2 Renegades' Trailer Released

With one week left before the launch of Destiny 2: Renegades on December 2nd, Bungie hosted a livestream dropping a lot of behind-the-scenes information on the expansion’s development, the new gameplay for the expansion, and a launch trailer which reveals a great deal more information on the plot and the main villain.
The trailer starts with a devastating vision afflicting one of the franchise’s main characters, the Drifter, and his resolve to do something about it. As is noted later in the ViDoc, the Vanguard (the leadership of the Guardians, the player faction) has silenced news of the events from the previous notable expansion, The Edge of Fate, and Drifter acts against their orders. The trailer goes on to explore the involvement of the player character in confronting the rising threat of the new Cabal faction called the Barant Imperium, which is being guided by the ominous Dredgen Bael.

Dredgens are something akin to Sith in the universe of Destiny, Guardians who turn on their own kind and have hatred for the Traveler and Ghosts, even as they are revived and survive thanks to the gifts of the Traveler. Bael’s identity is currently unclear, though they have a connection to the Drifter, but also perhaps a newly visualized character, Aunor Mahal. A member of the Praxic Order who has been appearing in Destiny 2 lore books and lore tabs for years now, she has stepped into a greater role in the story as she appears to agree with Drifter’s suspicions that the enigmatic Nine are behind the rise of the Imperium. It is from the Praxic Order and Aunor that players will gain access to their own proxy for Star Wars’ lightsabers, the Praxic Blade, though we can see that Dredgen Bael has their own in the trailer as they fight against Aunor in a notable clash of blades.
The heavy focus on storytelling for this expansion should hopefully prove fruitful for Bungie, as they explore a new flavor to their lore universe, but also link elements back to existing, sometimes long-running, plot threads. We’re excited to see how all the new content plays and how the story progresses next week when Renegades launches.
