Disney CEO Bob Iger Says That The Company Just Wants To Make "Great Movies"

Bob Iger has recently spoken up about the Walt Disney Company’s sequel and “reboot” dominated production slate, claiming that the company doesn’t have any real priority. His exact (partial) quote was, “We continue to be focused on creating new IP. Obviously, that’s of great value to us long term. But we also know that the popularity of our older IP remains significant, and the opportunities to either produce sequels or convert what was previously animation to live action, like we’re doing with ‘Moana’ in 2026, it’s just a great opportunity for the company and supports our franchise. So I wouldn’t say that we’ve got a priority one way or the other. Our priority is to put out great movies that ultimately resonate with consumers.”
Despite these comments, much of Disney’s slate for 2025 continues to be dominated by franchise works, such as Avatar: Fire and Ash, Freakier Friday, Predator: Badlands, Tron: Ares, and Zootopia 2. This is far from a Disney trend, but they are certainly one of the most visible offenders. Every year, it seems like there’s another live-action remake, sequel, or some kind of franchise movie. For some people, it’s getting to be too much. Only time will tell what happens next in this world.
