2026 looks to be a very active year for Disney, as Marvel, Star Wars and their animation divisions all have big films hitting during prime blockbuster season. But alongside those blockbusters has to be merchandise, and reportedly, Disney is gearing up for a monumental push of this material onto the masses.

They have affirmed this fact with the launch of the “Disney Blockbuster Season” initiative, the formal title for the rollout of said material. Speaking with Laughing Place, executive vice president for global brand commercialization for Disney Consumer Products, Paul Gitter, spoke about how products help to deepen the emotional connections with a particular piece of storytelling. Because of the broad slate of films, the number of products on offer will also be broad, and Gitter states many filmmakers appreciate the reach products can grant to their films, with some filmmakers being product collectors themselves. Lastly, prompted by a question from Laughing Place, Gitter also highlighted that Lilo & Stitch “is a perfect example of how a story can grow into a global phenomenon.”

Among the films getting the Disney Blockbuster Season treatment are the likes of Toy Story 5 and The Mandalorian and Grogu, with some of the latter’s products announced previously at events like NYCC 2025, while Toy Story is sure to thrive as well given the nature of that franchise. The initiative appears to be running for several months, beginning in the spring and running until the end of this year.
