An update has come for Searchlight Pictures’ upcoming film Anomaly.  While very little is known about the project, it has finally secured a few key names for key roles in development. According to Variety, Rhys Thomas will serve as both writer and director of the film, with Andrew Nunnelly joining as co-writer.  The pair will reportedly be adapting a screenplay from filmmaker Michael Noonan. The company corroborated this on their official X page, sharing the information and an information card featuring the news and Variety’s logo.  Jeremy Stern is tied to the project as a producer under Anonymous Content.

Thomas has an assortment of credits in both producing and directing, including The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins (2026), the Disney+ series Hawkeye, Queen: Behind the Rhapsody (2015), the TV series Documentary Now!, and Masters of Doom (2019).  He was the Film Unit producer for SNL from 2005 to 2017, and won a Primetime Emmy for the 40th Anniversary Special. Nunnelly was on the crew of Dolittle (2020), credited as an assistant to writer and director Stephen Gaghan. He was also on the production team for the Netflix drama Chambers. Nunnelly has several writing credits for projects that are in production, including the comedy thriller Sleep Train, for which Rhys is the director.
