Eric Dane, Star Of 'Grey's Anatomy', Dies Aged 53

On February 19th, 2026, the family of Eric Dane announced that he passed away after a year-long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was 53 years old.
He was best known for playing Dr. Mark Sloan, or “McSteamy,” on ABC’s long-running hospital drama, Grey’s Anatomy, where he starred in roughly 139 episodes. He made his debut in a 1991 episode of the hit teen comedy, Saved By The Bell. He also made appearances in other shows such as The Wonder Years, Roseanne, and Married…With Children.

Most recently, he starred in the HBO show, Euphoria. He also starred in the short-lived Amazon Prime series Countdown. His final role was in NBC’s medical drama, Brilliant Minds, where he played a character with ALS.

Since his diagnosis, the actor dedicated himself to ALS advocacy. He even joined the board of directors of Target ALS back in December. The statement released by his family mentioned him becoming a passionate advocate for awareness and research, and he was determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight.
In his family’s statement, they said the actor spent his final days surrounded by his friends, his devoted wife, and two daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate through this difficult time.
