Venom is coming back to the big screen sooner than some may have expected. According to The Hollywood Reporter, an animated film is reportedly in the works starring the symbiote.  This will be the first Venom animated film. However, the character has appeared in animated projects in the past, including Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel. Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein are tied to the project as directors. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Amy Pascal will be producers; they have experience with the live-action Venom films.  Eddie Brock actor Tom Hardy will be involved as well, stepping into the producer role alongside the others.

There is no specific writer attached to the project; THR reports that a writers' room will be opened for it. Sony Pictures Animation is behind the project. While the live-action portion of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has struggled over the years to consistently thrive, the animation side has seen a fair bit of success. Should this film move beyond development status and be released, it will mark a potential shift for Sony's Spider-Man Universe to lean further into animation. This project has no release window at this time. Venom (2018) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) can be streamed on Disney+, and Venom: The Last Dance (2024) can be streamed on Netflix.
