Ever since Lucasfilm confirmed that Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan would be taking over as co-Presidents after Kathleen Kennedy’s departure, the internet has been flooded with rumors about Filoni’s opinions on recent Star Wars projects, including Andor. One rumor claimed that Filoni disliked Star Wars: Visions, while others have been fanning the flames of a supposed cold war between Andor creator Tony Gilroy and the Chief Creative Officer. A few fans attempted to clear up the rumors and shared videos of Filoni expressing his positive opinion on Andor’s success. On the other hand, Tony Gilroy has admitted many times that his show wouldn’t exist without the success of The Mandalorian.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gilroy attempted to clear the air again regarding any bad blood between him and co-President Filoni. He was asked if he believes recent reports from The Wrap claiming that a Lucasfilm insider revealed that Filoni wasn’t a fan of Andor, which Lucasfilm later denied in a statement. It turns out, Gilroy doesn’t believe this insider either. He says, “We’ve only met a couple times, and we’ve only had a half-dozen conversations over the last ten years... We’ve always gotten along with those guys, and we’ve never had anything but high praise for everything that they’ve done. “

Explaining himself a bit further, Gilroy went as far as to say that “We only have our show because of them, and we’ve always said that was true. There’s no Andor without The Mandalorian. It would not exist. So it has never been anything but cordial and pleasant, ever, ever, ever, ever. I don’t know anything that you don’t know. I really don’t.” This should hopefully cool things down on social media, at least for now. In the months since Andor Season 2 premiered, hating on The Mandalorian and creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni seems to be the popular thing to do. Posts comparing the shows and their writing, music, acting, and cinematography have gone viral. Still, redemption for Din and Grogu may be on the way, as The Mandalorian and Grogu’s latest trailer has received a positive response. Andor and The Mandalorian are streaming on Disney+.
