The first five episodes of 1987’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been uploaded to YouTube as part of the marketing campaign for the new movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. The five episodes are packaged as one video. Nickelodeon recently acquired the broadcast rights to the Turtles and is using the free YouTube video as a teaser for all of the episodes airing on Nickelodeon. The show originally aired for 10 seasons with 193 episodes from 1987 to 1996. The five uploaded episodes are: “Turtle Tracks”, “Enter the Shredder”, “A Thing About Rats”, “Hot Rodding Teenagers from Dimension X”, and “Shredder and Splintered”.

Brian Robbins, president of Nickelodeon, has big plans for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. “In the nearly 40 years since Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles launched into the zeitgeist, it has entertained generations of fans and only continues to grow. We are excited to grow TMNT’s legacy in partnership with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg at Point Grey, and Jeff Rowe, who are innovating the franchise with their singular brand of humor and elevated storytelling for audiences everywhere, across virtually every platform.” There will be a new series airing on Paramount+ and Mutant Mayhem already has a planned sequel.

The five episodes on YouTube give the origin story of the eponymous Turtles. They were regular turtles living in the sewers of New York when they were exposed to mutagenic goo. The goo turned them into human/turtle hybrids. Their mentor, Splinter, was a man, also exposed to the goo, who became a humanoid rat. The episodes include how Leonardo, Rafael, Donatello, and Michaelangelo meet their friend, the reporter, April O’Neil. They also feature the introduction of the Turtles’ nemesis, The Shredder. This is the first video on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ official YouTube channel which promises upcoming exclusive content.
