Dave Bautista Rumored To Be In Talks For Kratos Role In Prime TV Adaptation of 'God Of War'

It’s well known by now that bestselling PlayStation series, God of War, is being adapted for TV on Prime Video. What may not be widely known is that it is experiencing a hiccup at this moment. The original actor cast to play the main character Kratos, Ryan Hurst, known for his roles on The Walking Dead and Sons of Anarchy, recently injured his bicep while filming. Due to the recovery time involved, it would delay production too long, so the studio decided to recast Kratos, despite Hurst having already filmed four episodes. It was also recently reported that they are looking to recast the role of Atreus, Kratos’ son, but that looks to be for the second season.
Now, reporting has come down that Dave Bautista, well known for his role in the WWE for some time, and then in Guardians of the Galaxy, is in negotiations to replace Hurst as Kratos. As a result of his time in the WWE and the characters he’s played in the past, like Drax, Bautista is already relatively fit for a physically demanding role like the one that will be required as Kratos. Hurst had to undergo extensive physical training to build up for the role. Bautista, though having lost a deal of weight lately, is coming off production of the Highlander movie with Henry Cavill, which he had to bulk up for as well. A concern, however, is that Bautista is in his mid-to-late 50s, and in a physically demanding role, despite his clear fitness levels, an aged actor could be more likely to be injured. Production is hoping to resume in the fall if they find the right actor to replace Hurst.
