Government Funding Cuts Result In The Corporation For Public Broadcasting Shutting Down

It has been announced that, due to budget cuts from the federal government, the Corporation For Public Broadcasting will be shutting down by the end of the year. The organization will wind down its operations, with most of its staff being shuttered on Sept. 30; a small skeleton staff will remain until January 2026. CEO Patricia Harrison has stated, “Despite the extraordinary efforts of millions of Americans who called, wrote, and petitioned Congress to preserve federal funding for CPB, we now face the difficult reality of closing our operations. CPB remains committed to fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities and supporting our partners through this transition with transparency and care.”

What effect this will have on the Public Broadcasting Service and National Public Radio is unknown at the moment, though their biggest programs, such as Sesame Street, will likely continue airing for the time being. “The ripple effects of this closure will be felt across every public media organization and, more importantly, in every community across the country that relies on public broadcasting,” said Katherine Maher, the president & CEO of NPR. Any further news about this event will be given through our website and other reliable sources of news. Until next time, we shall be leaving you.
