Having recently wrapped production of Peaky Blinders’ big screen debut, Steven Knight is joining the team of Amazon’s newest James Bond movie. Knight will write the latest adventure of 007, which will be directed by Denis Villeneuve.
Knight, whose previous credits include Eastern Promises, SAS Rogue Heroes, and A Thousand Blows, became a frontrunner for the job during the selection process. Joining Villeneuve in Budapest, where filming of Dune Part Three is currently taking place, the meeting between the two cemented the decision to make Knight the writer of the 26th Bond movie.
David Heyman and Amy Pascal, current custodians of Bond’s movies, have been hunting for great talent to take on the first Bond since Amazon struck a deal for full creative rights to the franchise. Coming from the Wizarding World and Spider-Man franchises, respectively, the two veterans know they need a strong start to earn the trust of fans of the iconic spy franchise.
With a writer on board, the development of James Bond’s next big screen outing can truly begin. It might be a few years away, but that won’t stop fans from speculating on who might be taking on the role of Bond. And what exotic locations the super spy will travel to. For fans who enjoy video games, a more interactive Bond is coming with IOI’s 007: First Light, which will provide an original Bond story with a brand-new Bond.
