Netflix released the first trailer for the new Narnia movie. Greta Gerwig, who took the world by storm when she directed Barbie, decided not to adapt The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe yet as the previous films did. Instead, she will focus on The Magician’s Nephew, the book that takes place first in the timeline. Gerwig is also shifting the timeline with her movie taking place in the 1950s instead of the beginning of the century. This will move future movies later in the timeline as well. The trailer opens with two kids, Digory Kirke (David McKenna) and Polly (Beatrice Campbell) observing Digory’s Uncle Andrew (Daniel Craig). Andrew reveals himself as a magician and gives Digory a golden ring. As he dons the ring, objects float up around him, and Digory and Polly find themselves in a strange wood. The trailer cuts to scenes of the pair discovering more worlds and Digory touching an artifact that awakens a mysterious woman.

From there, viewers can glimpse a shot of the White Witch in the snow, the kids riding a flying horse, and a woman in a disco dress, who came ready to fight. An unknown voice reminds audiences that “magic is everywhere, in the darkness and the light.” Uncle Andrew asks the kids if they’ve ever seen a world born while a cosmic Aslan roars a new world to life. Gerwig sought and received permission from Jimmy Page and Robert Plant to use "Stairway to Heaven” in the trailer. As both were fans of C.S. Lewis’ work, they were glad to lend the song. Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew opens in theaters on February 12, 2027, where it will remain for fifty days, a Netflix record, before arriving on the streaming platform.
