The Theatre Development Fund (TDF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the performing arts, has just announced its final performance for its Thirteenth season of Autism Friendly Performances: the Tony- and Pulitzer-winning musical Hamilton. On June 16, Richard Rodgers Theatre will be hosting a 1PM performance of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s tale of the founding of the United States, in its first ever participation in the TDF program. This performance, as the name suggests, will be tailor-made for families with “members on the autism spectrum or with other developmental or cognitive disabilities”. Other details about the production were not given.
Hamilton is the latest in the TDF’s Autism Friendly Performances, a program launched in 2011 with a special production of The Lion King. Other productions included in these performances include: Mary Poppins, SpongeBob SquarePants, Matilda: The Musical, My Fair Lady, The King and I, Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, Kinky Boots, and Wicked, among other famous Broadway musicals. It will be interesting to see what the performance would look like; for that, we’ll just have to wait and see when it comes out. In the meantime, we will remain on the lookout for any other news stories and be sure to bring them to you.
