Visual effects members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) have made their first move, as they vote in favor of new contracts with major studios like Marvel Studios, Walt Disney Pictures, and 20th Century Studios. These contracts will go a long way towards ensuring fairer treatment for VFX workers, after years of complaints from that industry. These contracts likely include higher wages, better hours, and less strenuous workloads, though we aren’t aware of the exact details. Still, these calls for unionization have been heard and will likely inspire other such efforts in the future.

President of the IATSE, Matthew D. Loeb, spoke positively about this event. He is on record as saying, “I want to congratulate the member (sic) of these VFX bargaining units on negotiating fair contracts that earned such strong support. From when they started this process until today, the leadership and determination shown by these members has been an inspiration.” Other members were also quoted, expressing gratitude for the union and hope for the future. Unionization efforts for VFX workers are still ongoing and will likely continue to gain support as time goes on. For now, we will be on standby to provide updates as needed; in addition to other news stories, both related and unrelated.
