In An Unexpected Move Oscar Isaac Has Released His First Comic Book

Oscar Isaac’s break from TV and film has allowed his story concept of Head Wounds to be realised in comic book form.
During the production of the film Dune in 2019, Isaac had mentioned his idea to Mary Parent, Vice Chairman of Worldwide Production at Legendary Entertainment. That conversation saw Isaac introduced to Robert Napton, Senior VP and Publisher of Legendary Comics. Seeing the potential of the story, the comic would be penned by Brian Buccellato and illustrated by Christian Ward.

The story of Head Wounds is not just Isaac’s alone. Lantana, Florida is where Isaac met Bob Johnson and John Alvey at Santaluces Community High School in the early 90s. Fast becoming friends, the three would always stay in touch even after going their separate ways. Such a story is told in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, which continues with a serious diagnosis for Johnson about six years ago.
Battling with stage-IV non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which doctors had told him would be incurable, he had described it to his two friends as an invisible wound that nobody else could see. The chemotherapy course he was under proved to be effective, with his description of how it felt having morphed into a story concept about a New Orleans detective who gets shot in the head but survives through supernatural causes.
The comic, which was released on 18 October, has already broken into the top 100 of Amazon’s Mystery Graphic Novels rankings. While Isaac might be done with comics, he’s still not returning to film and TV as yet. The only plans he has at present are gearing up to take to the stage alongside Rachel Brosnahan, where they’ll be performing the play The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window at the Brooklyn Academy of Music from February next year.
