Less than a year after the game’s release, news has come from GamesCom in Germany that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is getting its first DLC.

IGN’s Brian Altano sat down at the game convention to talk with Zeke Virant and Axel Torvenius of the game’s developer, Machine Games.

One of the first things they discussed is that the game is a standalone part of the original game, but still set within the “sandbox” of the Vatican. For those who played the game, the first place that Indy’s travels take him in the mystery of the giant who attacked him is Vatican City. Set in the midst of the fascist Mussolini regime, Indy must navigate the politics and power that have permeated the Vatican’s walls during the era of Italian Fascism.

Further discussing the DLC, they talked about how they were able to look back at what worked well, and what didn’t, in the base game, and expand. Virant and Torvenius explained that they found people really loved the platforming aspect of the game, so they dived further into that for the DLC.

Altano asked them about the inspiration for the DLC and whether they drew from the movies. Virant and Torvenius talked about much of the inspiration coming from Raiders of the Lost Ark, and how the DLC is just as narrative-driven as the base game. They chose to frame the DLC within the narrative and setting of the base game because, and for reasons they couldn’t go into, it ties in deeply with the original narrative of the game.

Further details concern new ability perks and weapons that Indy can wield in his search to unravel the mystery of the Order of Giants.

The DLC launches on September 4 on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms.
