As the new head of DC Studios, James Gunn is taking developing projects internationally. It was recently confirmed by Gunn that he has several projects set in Brazil, Korea, and Japan under development. No specific titles were revealed by Gunn, but it does confirm rumors that Gunn has some international projects in the works and industry insiders believe that it could dramatically reshape the superhero franchise.
One of the most oft-discussed rumors is about a Korean-based Huntress film, possibly to be helmed by acclaimed South Korean director Jung Byung-Gil (The Villainess). Gunn has not confirmed this yet, however, in tandem with previous updates revealed by Gunn in 2023, it appears that this project is moving ahead. The character, Huntress, previously appeared in the film, Birds of Prey (2020), portrayed by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) which laid the foundation for a potential reintroduction and solo outing for her character.
Speculation abounds for DC titles in development set in Brazil and Japan. Those settings could be used to reintroduce lesser-known characters in a new location and/or culture, or to introduce entirely new heroes, locations, and internationally based storytelling formats. X.com poster “Apocalyptic Horseman” made a recent claim that more than series are being developed internationally, potentially hinting that there may be some films in development as well.
