Since her introduction in The Clone Wars as Anakin Skywalker’s padawan, Ahsoka Tano became a fan favorite. Even though she was never the main character of many stories following The Clone Wars we had various opportunities to see her in action. However, later in 2023 Ahsoka is getting a series of her own, named after her!

Many questions have revolved around this project, but one particular question consumed people like no other: Is Ahsoka a continuation of Star Wars Rebels? The series showrunner Dave Filoni, alongside Jon Favreau, talked about it during an episode of the ‘Dagobah Dispatch‘ podcast: “I suppose that's one way of looking at it, because of the epilogue that I did in Rebels. Definitely all signs are indicating that there's a continuation.”

The transition from the animated format to live action was no walk in the park. Filoni mentioned how nervous he was during the process of bringing the animated characters to the live-action setting: "With the head tails and the makeup, what does that look like?" Filoni wondered. "Can a performer bring that to life in a way that is meaningful?"

One of the most nerve-wracking situations occurred during the casting process, Filoni recalls being somewhat overwhelmed with making the correct choice. "It goes back to a quote that Kathleen Kennedy (president of Lucasfilm gave me when I was really going over the casting of Ahsoka. I said, 'How do you know when it's the right person?' And she just looked at me and said, 'Dave, you just know.' I'm in a very privileged position to have a mentor like her advising me and just giving the knowledge that you need to make the choices creatively that you end up doing. And she was right. I just knew when it was Rosario, and that kind of brought Ahsoka together for me, and off we ran."

Now that we know a bit more about what to expect from this new project excitement will continue to fill our minds. Ahsoka and the Ghost crew will make a glorious return, that is for sure. Ahsoka arrives on Disney+ in August 2023 so it is only a matter of time to see what new stories we will be part of and what new parts of the galaxy we will visit.
