Kathleen Kennedy spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about her time as Lucasfilm President. Kennedy stepped down earlier this year, passing the baton to Lynwen Brennan and Dave Filoni. The duo is combining their skills to carry the role Kennedy played single-handedly. Fan response to Kennedy’s achievements as President was mixed, but as she looks back at the 14 years she spent doing what George Lucas did, she has 3 projects she’s extremely proud of: The Force Awakens, The Mandalorian, and Andor. The Force Awakens re-launched the franchise for a whole new generation of fans and created a box office storm. Its box office collections proved that Star Wars was alive and well, with over $2 billion collected globally.

Another major venture for Star Wars during Kennedy’s era was Star Wars’ debut on television. The Mandalorian became an instant global phenomenon and launched Disney+. The Mandalorian was widely appreciated by fans and critics, earning multiple Emmy Awards and nominations throughout its 3 seasons. It introduced cutting-edge new Stagecraft technology, which drastically reduces production time and costs. The Mandalorian’s success led to several new shows, including Andor, a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Andor was another critical success under Kennedy’s supervision and was praised for its writing and crisp visuals. Kennedy is still a producer on Star Wars: Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling. Starfighter will premiere next May, but she has already transitioned out of her role and says she’s now trying to catch up with directors and producers she lost track of while living in the “bubble” of Star Wars for 14 years.
