Deep in the Hundred Acre Wood where Christopher Robin plays, the enchanted neighborhood celebrates its one hundredth birthday. What began as a man who came home from war and wrote down stories about his child, the real-life Christopher Robin, became a staple of childhood for generations to come. Books, television shows, films, toys, and its messages of friendship and love have stood the test of time.
To celebrate its one hundredth year, the New York Public Library has curated an exhibit of the stuffed animals that inspired what would become the animated Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet, Rabbit, and the others. Carefully preserved, the stuffed animals will bring their viewers magic and joy.
Further adding to this magic will be the iconic Jim Cummings (the voice of Pooh and Tigger) reading from AA Milne's books along with other activities including "giveaways, photo ops, activity sheets, and other fun surprises," as stated on the New York Public Library's events announcement page.
For those unable to attend this special birthday, fans of the “silly ole bear” can still wish him a happy birthday, learn some interesting facts about those living in the Hundred Acre Wood, and thank Queen Consort Camilla for bringing the original stuffed Roo to the exhibition. Those wishing to see the iconic bear in person: future field trips start November 9.
@todayshow “Winnie-the-Pooh” is celebrating 100 years since A. A. Milne introduced the world to Pooh and his friends in The Hundred Acre Wood. Laura Jarrett heads to the New York Public Library, where the original dolls and first edition of the 1926 book live.
