This weekend’s box office has seen a fair bit of success thus far, and it’s only just begun. The live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch (2025) officially opened on Friday, May 23, 2025. On its first day, it made about $55 million, including the preview showings, making it the top performer and dethroning Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025). Internationally, the film has made $83 million, putting its revenue at $138 million before the weekend is over. As it is a holiday weekend, there will be four days to account for rather than three.
This is far from Disney’s first live-action remake of a classic film in recent years. Lilo & Stitch (2025) has surpassed the opening weekend revenue of several films in just its first day. It is on par with fellow Memorial Day Weekend release The Little Mermaid (2023), which made about $118.81 million domestically over the four-day weekend; should Lilo & Stitch (2025) maintain momentum, it could easily match this revenue. The film has also more than surpassed Disney’s other most recent live-action remake, Snow White (2025), which made about $42.2 million over its opening weekend.

Lilo & Stitch (2025) is a live-action remake of the 2002 animated film of the same name. It follows Lilo and Nani Pelekai, sisters trying to stay together with Nani as Lilo’s primary guardian. Stitch, an experiment originally dubbed 626, escapes from where he was made to avoid the exile he would’ve been sentenced to. After crashing on Earth and posing as a dog, he is adopted by Lilo, eventually bonding with the family, developing empathy, and defending them against the scientist who wants him back. The film is available exclusively in theaters and will be for a while yet. The original version of the film is available to stream on Disney+.
