The Magic School Bus is one of the most beloved children's educational shows of all time. The educational ‘90s powerhouse follows the (mis)adventures of Ms. Valerie Frizzle, her eight students, and her pet Jackson’s Chameleon named Liz, as they take the magic school bus on various “field trips” to places like the solar system, the human body (multiple times) and various wildlife habitats so that the kids could get a hands on look at whatever the topic for that episode was. The show also frequently used guest stars, such as Miami Dolphins legend Dan Marino, Malcolm McDowell, Dolly Parton, and Ed Asner, to name a few. In 2017 the series was renewed for Netflix with The Magic School Bus Rides Again, which was met with positive reviews.

Now, as is the way of things in the modern era, we’re getting a live-action version. The project has been in development since 2020, but it’s starting to gain traction again. Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks has been attached to the role as Ms. Frizzle, and the project has a new director. Rob Letterman, best known for Detective Pikachu, has been tapped to direct and write the film. So far, we have no clues as to what the film is about, beyond most likely the basic format of the show, where Ms. Frizzle takes the kids on her magic bus to some strange location. Hopefully, it’s not the human body and we get some super realistic look at the digestive system.

Or a live-action version of that salmon episode of the original series. If you know, you know.

So far no details about the film, or a release date have been made public.
