George R.R. Martin is much more than a novelist, he screenwrites and produces as well. With the ongoing WGA and AMPTP Hollywood strikes, some of Martin’s work has been halted indefinitely. In a new post on the author’s blog, he said that his “overall deal” with the television network HBO “was suspended on June 1.” This covers the development of new projects for the network.

Martin remains busy amidst the strikes. Since stage plays aren’t impacted by the strikes, work has continued for The Iron Throne. The scripts “are coming along well,” and meetings have been productive. He has also “been editing a couple new Wild Cards books,” including Sleeper Straddle and House Rules.

Martin went on to confirm that he has “been working on WINDS OF WINTER.” The author explained his work schedule, “Almost every day.  Writing, rewriting, editing, writing some more.  Making steady progress.  Not as fast as I would like.. .certainly not as fast as YOU  would like… but progress nonetheless.”

The author was also a writer for House of the Dragon season two, and he confirms “ALL of the scripts had been finished months before the WGA strike began.” As far as he is aware, “no writing has been done since.” Production is continuing because “the actors are members of the British union, Equity, not SAG-AFTRA.” If the cast were to walk off set, “they have no protection against being fired for breach of contract, or even sued.”
