Marvel And DC Comic Book Writer Peter David Passes After Health Problems

Writer Peter Allen David passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025, after a long battle with ongoing health issues. He was best known for his work on various projects, including a 12-year run as The Incredible Hulk, both the comic and animated series Young Justice, and a range of Star Trek content. Friend and colleague Keith R.A. DeCandido made a Facebook post confirming the creative’s death, stating, “Just got the news that Peter David finally lost his rather lengthy battle with his failing physical form last night.” He was 68 years old.
David was born on September 23, 1953, in Fort Meade, Maryland. While growing up, his family moved several times, living in two different New Jersey cities before settling in Pennsylvania. The author graduated from New York University with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism. David’s works include a long stint under the comic series The Incredible Hulk, the comic series Young Justice, several episodes of the animated series Young Justice, a graphic novel adaptation of the video game Epic Mickey, and the Star Trek novels Star Trek: New Frontier, Q-in-Law, and I, Q.

The creative had a variety of awards under his belt. A few of these awards include the Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series in 1992 and Best Writer in 1994 for The Incredible Hulk, the Eisner Award for Best New Series in 1999 for Young Justice, and the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comic Book in 2011 for volume three of X-Factor. He also won the 2016 Inkpot Award from Comic-Con International. His impact and influence on pop culture will be prevalent for years to come.
David is survived by his wife, Kathleen, and children Gwen, Ariel, Shana, and Caroline. Word on public mourning services has not been given at this time. Our deepest condolences go to David’s family, friends, and colleagues. Remember to respect their privacy in this time of grieving.
