When Marvel Studios first announced the new Blade film in 2019, with Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, to dawn the cloak of the vampire hunter, fans were ecstatic. Upon the initial report, the film was set to release by November 2023. However, since the announcement, the film lost its first director, Bassam Tariq, due to shifting production schedules and issues with the script.

It is now reported by The Hollywood Reporter that Lovecraft Country’s Yann Demange is taking over as director. Michael Starrbury is slated to write the new script, replacing Stacy Osei-Kuffour from the original announcement. Bassam Tariq is still attached to the project as an executive producer. At this time, there are no details available as to the direction of the new script or any previous scripts beyond the rumors of the last script being close to ninety pages in length with only two action sequences.

At this past July’s Comic-Con presentation, Kevin Feige announced Blade will close out Marvel Studio’s Phase Five plans along with the highly anticipated Deadpool 3, which is slated for release on November 8, 2024.

Blade was initially planned for release on November 3, 2023, but is currently slated for release on September 6, 2024.
