The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in for a pretty big shake-up in the next few years, as Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige dropped some big reveals during a press event a few days ago.

In addition to discussions about Marvel’s shifting strategy to prioritize movies over TV and finding new measures to lower production budgets, Feige provided insight into some significant changes coming to the MCU, all stemming from the upcoming film Avengers: Secret Wars. With the X-Men set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday next year, Feige revealed that the roles will be recast ahead of their first solo film, which has Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier attached to direct.

Following the success of Deadpool and Wolverine, many others from the classic Fox X-Men will be joining the Avengers in their next outing, with Sirs Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen reprising their roles as Charles Xavier and Magneto. James Marsden (Cyclops), Kelsey Grammar (Beast), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), and Alan Cummings (Nightcrawler) are also set to reprise their roles in Doomsday.

With the original Avengers: Secret Wars comics seeing the collision of different timelines and universes to create a new universe, Feige says that the movie will similarly ‘reset’ the MCU. With this reset on the horizon, he suggests that other characters such as Steve Rogers and Tony Stark may also return, with new actors stepping into the role.

Avengers: Doomsday is currently in production, and is slated to release in December 2026.
