Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s… a brand new Marvel series coming to Disney+ revealed at New York Comic Con!
After years of secrecy, speculation, delays, and even rumors of cancellation, Marvel Studios has finally unveiled the official trailer for their next Disney+ series, Wonder Man. And judging by the trailer, this isn’t our usual Marvel fare. Going for a more meta approach, the series asks one big question: “Why make another superhero film?” In the world of the show, a famed filmmaker comes out of retirement to make a big-budget remake of a cult superhero film titled Wonder Man. As the industry is set ablaze by this announcement, everyone and their mother tries out for the title role, including our protagonist, Simon Williams. The Wonder Man character was created by Stan Lee, Don Heck, and Jack Kirby, and has since garnered a cult following amongst comic fans.
Created by MCU veterans Andrew Guest (Hawkeye) and Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Spider-Man: Brand New Day), Wonder Man seems to truly be unlike anything we’ve seen before in the Marvel Universe. Wonder Man, unfairly or not, will likely garner comparisons to the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ series, The Studio, which recently won Seth Rogen an Emmy for producing, starring, directing, and writing. In a past interview, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige mentioned The Studio and the ill-fated HBO Series, The Franchise, as the shows Wonder Man was initially meant to air before. Wonder Man is the first live-action TV Series of Marvel’s Phase Six. The series is also a part of the Marvel Spotlight banner.

The highly anticipated miniseries will consist of 8 episodes, directed by Cretton himself, James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, The End of the Tour), Tiffany Johnson (Poker Face, Black Monday), and Stella Meghie (Everything, Everything, The Photograph). In addition to the litany of talent behind the scenes, Wonder Man also sports a remarkable cast. Yahya Abdul-Manteen II takes the lead as Simon Williams, following his well-received performance as Black Manta in James Wan’s Aquaman duology and his Emmy-winning role as Doctor Manhattan in the acclaimed HBO series, Watchmen. Ben Kingsley also returns for his third appearance as Trevor Slattery, a role he first played in Shane Black’s Iron Man 3. Arian Moayed will also reprise his role as Agent P. Cleary from Spider-Man: No Way Home and Ms. Marvel. The cast also consists of X Mayo (The Daily Show), Zlatko Burić (Superman), Olivia Thrilby (Dredd), Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix), Academy Award nominee Ed Harris, and Tony nominee Josh Gad.
Wonder Man will air on Disney+ on January 27, 2026.
