The Batman director, Matt Reeves, finally broke his silence yesterday about his role during the remaining weeks of filming. Last week, production on The Batman: Part II was paused. Still, yesterday, director Steven Soderbergh confirmed that he would collaborate with Reeves to finish filming the remaining portion of the film. Production on The Batman: Part II started in June, and around two-thirds of the filming had already been completed before the pause. Although Reeves will be unable to return to set to finish directing it as he continues to deal with an urgent family matter, Soderbergh will help bring Reeves’s vision to life. In an official statement, Soderbergh revealed, “I thought Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent. The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.” Warner Bros. also issued an official confirmation that Soderbergh is “an admirer of Matt’s work, approached Matt and will step in, with the full support of DC Studios, to help the writer-director complete the final weeks of principal photography on The Batman Part 2. Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew to fulfill Matt’s vision of the film.”

While this should have been enough to clarify the situation, Matt Reeves also shared a statement on Twitter to tell fans that he hasn’t left The Batman. Reeves broke his silence for the first time since production on Part II paused. He thanked Soderbergh for offering to complete the film. Reeves said, “Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part II. I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes.” Reeves confirmed that Soderbergh offered to help him finish principal photography, but once he’s ready, he will be back for post-production. The film will still follow Reeves’s script and match his vision. Reeves and Soderbergh will stay in close contact as filming resumes in the coming weeks. The Batman: Part II, starring Robert Pattinson, will hit theaters on February 18, 2028.
