Michelle Yeoh may have left Star Trek, but she is not done with the final frontier. She is confirmed to be returning in a spin-off film titled Star Trek: Section 31 for the Paramount Network. Philippa Georgiou, Yeoh’s character, was killed off in the third season of Star Trek: Discovery, but Michelle has always said that she felt the Captain of the Shenzhou deserved more screentime.

The new series, based around a black ops section of Starfleet, looks as if it could be darker than anything we are used to seeing from the franchise. In an interview with Collider, the high-profile actress hinted that filming is about to commence.

“I just came back from Toronto, and what does that tell you? We are definitely prepping. We are definitely going full steam ahead. And thank you. Section 31 is very special to me, and I'm so happy we're doing it.”

Paramount’s release schedule for Star Trek was severely impacted by the SAG-AFTRA writers strike, so its good to see it’s now on track. Hopefully the other films in the pipeline, including the Picard spin-off, will soon be on their way.

Michelle Yeoh has had a busy year after her Oscar win (for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once) and her wedding. Michelle married Jean Todt, French motor racing executive, in Geneva this summer, and then reaffirmed the ceremony with family in Malaysia three months later.
