The link to the morphing grid truly is forever. Just an hour before the Power Rangers Hasbro Pulse fanstream, Entertainment Weekly got the scoop on everything coming in 2023 for the television side of the franchise, including both the 30th anniversary special and the 30th season, Cosmic Fury. While EW was able to acquire most of the details, the fanstream did manage to procure a couple of extra morsels.

The anniversary special will be called Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Once & Always. As previously reported, the special brings back David Yost as Billy for the first time since Zeo, Walter Jones as Zack for the first time since “The Power Transfer,” Karan Ashley as Aisha for the first time since “Rangers in Reverse,” and Johnny Yong Bosch as Adam for the first time since the 15th anniversary episode “Once a Ranger” in Operation Overdrive. Kat and Rocky return as well (though their last appearances are far more recent), and they all appear together for the first time onscreen. Charlie Kersh plays original Yellow Ranger Trini’s daughter Minh. Yost has especially delighted in suiting up with Jones again, having been through the initial phase of Rangerdom together. According to the official premise, they will be facing a “familiar threat.” The series will contain zero Sentai footage and will be composed of all original ideas; series writers Alwyn Dale and Becca Barnes mentioned that they had plenty of freedom.

As for that familiar threat from the past, who else would it be but the original villainess herself, Rita Repulsa? No, her purification from 1998's “Countdown to Destruction” hasn’t been undone. It was clarified in the fanstream that this is a robotic Rita. This follows her husband Lord Zedd being cloned from his peak evil era during Dino Fury. Rita will be once again voiced by original voice actress Barbara Goodson, having been voiced by various Kiwi actresses in more recent clip shows. Since the Cosmic Fury Rangers have Zedd as their main villain, both the Emperor and Empress of Evil will be the foes for the anniversary year. In addition, Richard Steven Horvitz, the voice of Alphas 5 and 7, will return to voice a new Alpha model. The writers were coy on its designation.

In the featurette video released, it was confirmed that Tommy Oliver would be appearing as the Green Mighty Morphin’ Ranger, but the full picture of the approach is unclear, as Jason David Frank had retired from the franchise before his death in November. Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Once & Always premieres on Netflix worldwide on April 19.
