The release of Netflix’s original documentary/show Dahmer made a huge splash; the show was quick to reach Netflix’s Top Ten most-watched programs. Amongst the controversy and buzz of the latest dive into the crimes of one of the most notorious and known serial killers, the surge in serial killer documentaries and series has risen. With this, creator Ryan Murphy has jumped on the current true crime zeitgeist.

According to Vanity Fair, “none of [Murphy’s] previous projects—among them The Politician, Hollywood, Ratched, and Halston—broke out the way [“Dahmer” and “The Watcher”] have.” Upon Monster’s release, almost over 300 million hours of watch time were recorded. This easily topped Netflix’s Stranger Things in views and watch time. With these numbers, it’s little wonder that Netflix wants to curate more content. Luckily for Netflix, two more installments of Monster series are set to be released. This news has been further verified by Netflix’s official Twitter page.

News of the latest additions has high expectations. According to Netflix’s press release, future installments of "Monster" are set to "tell the stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society." Who the “monstrous figures” are are a mystery. Considering how many of these “monstrous figures” Netflix has already featured in their own docu-series, there are plenty to choose from. With these choices come the strong possibilities of future installments gartering controversy for opening up wounds from the relatives and loved ones of the victims. Though some true crime portrayals are based on true events or are fictional, so much of the real world will be at the viewer’s fingertips courtesy of Netflix.
