Production of season two of The Rings of Power is rolling right along, despite some setbacks with accidents. A couple of fires and the tragic death of a horse have given the impression to some that perhaps the production is cursed, but thankfully those have been the only issues. New aerial photos, however, reveal that the fate of some of the realms of Middle-earth may be the ones actually cursed. Set photos revealed by Fellowship of Fans from the Bray Studios constructed sets reveal that the serene strongholds of the Elves may no longer go unscathed in the escalating war against Sauron.

What does this all mean? While there isn’t a definitive answer on what Elven realm is featured in those photos, there are some clues in the photos and also in the lore that could explain what is shown. The broken and fallen statue of Fëanor suggests this could be Eregion, where Celebrimbor and his workshop are located. Fëanor was the greatest of the Elven craftsmen, the one who shaped the Silmarils that originated much of the troubles that befall the Elves. His hammer is displayed in Celebrimbor’s workshop.

Another thing that suggests this is likely Eregion is that Sauron eventually lays siege to Eregion. In his desire to control Middle-earth, Sauron attacks Eregion, ultimately overwhelming them and forcing the Elves to retreat to Lindon. This comes after he discovers that Celebrimbor crafted rings for the Elves using his advice, and he wished to take the rings so that he could control the Elves. Celebrimbor concealed them from him, and when he learned of this, Sauron destroys Eregion.

This seems to match up pretty well with the events that have unfolded in The Rings of Power so far. Halbrand, who is really Sauron, comes to Eregion and Celebrimbor’s workshop and bestows upon him knowledge of metals and metallurgy that could make the most of the new Dwarven ore mithril. This is before Galadriel realizes that Halbrand has lied to her and he is Sauron, forcing him to flee.

Season two of The Rings of Power is reported to debut in 2024.
