New 'Captain Marvel' Comic Series Coming in 2027

It’s not yet known whether Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers will return in Avengers: Doomsday, but we do know that the female superhero will receive her own ongoing comic series from Marvel Comics starting in May 2027.

G. Willow Wilson was announced as the writer for the new series during Marvel’s Bullpen Bulletins! panel. Wilson is no stranger to Marvel stories, as she has previously worked on Ms. Marvel and Black Cat.“I’m so excited to be returning to these characters who I love so much, these readers who I love so much, and to be taking Carol on her next big adventure,” Wilson said. “I can’t wait to get started and for fans to see what we have in store for Carol and all her friends. So chin up, put your boots on. We’re going back up!”

Working with Wilson as lead artist for the new series is Rachael Stott, whose credits include Fantastic Four. Scott showed equal enthusiasm to return to the more space-bound side of the Marvel universe:“So unbelievably thrilled to not only be working with one of my favorite writers, the amazing G. Willow Wilson, but also one of my absolute favorite characters,” Stott said and continued: “At times like these, as an artist you really have to pinch yourself, and assume that in a previous life you saved a bus load of orphans from an escaped tiger to get so lucky. Can’t wait to help bring this exciting new chapter of Carol’s story to life!”

The new series is set after the climactic finale of Avengers: Armageddon, which had the Avengers fight “Thunderbolt” Ross /Red Hulk and his army of Hulks. Armageddon also saw the introduction of Miracleman, a god-like character, into the current mainstream continuity. Although Red Hulk was defeated in the end, the events of Armageddon changed the era of the Avengers fundamentally.

Carol Danvers has to deal with the aftermath of the devastating battle against Ross in her own personal way and feels “grounded like never before,” while a mysterious new threat prepares to emerge.
