Even before the Lucasfilm Publishing Panel on Friday, October 9th at New York Comic Con 2026, exciting news was reaching the fans.

This came in the form of the reveal of the first substantive Mandoverse tie-in comic, based on a story from Dave Filoni but authored by Rodney Barnes and set to release beginning January 2027. Set aboard the Chimera during the vessel’s flight back to the known galaxy from Peridea, Star Wars: Ahsoka — Escape From Thrawn follows the disguised Ezra as he faces the likes of Captain Enoch, the Great Mothers and more on his quest to flee the Star Destroyer. Set in a very narrow space of time, yet a miniseries of five issues, it seems likely that this comic will contain hints or flashbacks to events not yet seen in the show, though there is every chance that they might just really draw out Ezra’s escape through completely temporally linear means.

Another announcement was a new novel about Princess Leia, authored by Claudia Gray, which will explore events immediately after A New Hope, and appears to be a companion to Leia: Princess of Alderaan, by being called Leia: Princess of the Rebellion. The book will also probably mention the events of the Princess Leia comic from 2015, and had a stunning cover revealed. Princess of the Rebellion will drop on May 4th, 2027. Meanwhile, Reign of the Empire’s third novel, From the Ashes, had its cover revealed as well, featuring Mon Mothma, Bail and Leia standing together on Yavin 4.

A host of other reveals mainly focused on celebrating the 50th anniversary of A New Hope through comic reprints, and big coffee table-style books, also came out. Still, the really exciting reveals were saved for the end. Star Wars: Starfighter has a well-laid-out plan for its upcoming tie-in media push. Two slides from the Lucasfilm presentation show all the books planned to release before the film, plus two after. While many are young reader stories, a miniseries from Marc Guggenheim at Marvel stands out, while an expanded novelization of the film written by Delilah Dawson is also exciting to see.

Lastly, the previously revealed D&D collaboration got more information, with D&D | Star Wars: Tyro Squadron Adventures revealed for the first time. Seemingly focused on a cast of four diverse characters telling events during the Original Trilogy, the book will be released sometime next year.

All in all, this year’s NYCC has proven to be a good one for Star Wars and Lucasfilm. With the Mad Cave comic panel happening on Sunday, October 11th, we’ll have to hope they are also able to show off some promising new material.
